Pushkar History
Historically, Pushkar always had great strategic importance and was sacked by Mahumud of Ghazni on one of his periodic forays from Afghanistan. Later it became a favorite residence of the great Moghula. One of the first contacts between the Moghula and the British occurred in Pushkar when Sir Thomas Roe met with Jahangir here in 1616. The city was subsequently taken by the Scindias and, in 1818, it was handed over to the British, becoming one of the few places in Rajasthan controlled directly by British rather than being part of a princely state.

Savitri Temple
A temple dedicated to the first wife of Lord Brahma the Savitri temple is located on the hill behind the Brahma Temple which can be reached by a flight of steps. The temple offers a panoramic view of the lake and the surrounding desertscape.

Man Mahal
On the banks if pushkar is the magnificent palace built by Raja Man Singh 1 of Amer now converted into the RTDC Hotel sarovar it offers a comfortable accommodation to the visitors.

The Brahma Temple
The Brahma temple is an important pilgrim centre for the Hindus. It is nestled in the Pushkar valley which lies beyond Nagaparvat and the Anasagar Lake. This place, full of natural beauty, holds a special place in the hearts of Indian for it is believed that Lord Brahma, together with all the gods and goddesses, performed a Yagya here.

Pushkar Lake

Pushkar Fair
Pushkar fair is held every year on the auspicious fool moon day of the Hindu month of Karthik (October-November). The fair is very popular and famous among the tourists from all over the world and countless devotees from all faiths and belief gather here on this sacred day to take holy dip in the famous Pushkar Lake.

The fair offers an excellent opportunity to the local traders to display their work of arts, handicrafts and more importantly an option to interact with the people from different region of the Rajasthan. The whole atmosphere of the place gets highlighted with the colourful attire of the men and women, especially the evenings possess an excellent charm with lighted lamps that reflects in the lake giving spectular view of the sight.

Event In Fair
The major attraction of the fair is the Camel Trade Fair, that showcases the best breed of camels accumulated from entire Rajasthan. Apart from this the events like camel race and camel auction are also organised in the fair. In addition to all these, the several cultural events takes place in the fair. The local people dressed in colourful attire and in heavy jewellery performs in the various events. The cultural event includes - folk dance, folk music, and several other entertaining activities.

Air : The nearest airport is Jaipur (145 km), from where one can take flights for Delhi and Mumbai. .

Rail : Ajmer is the nearest railway station from where one can take trains for the major destinations in Rajasthan and other parts of India.

Road : Pushkar is connected to Ajmer by road. Buses, jeeps and taxis are also available.
