Rohtang Pass is the highest point, 4,112m, on the
Manali -Keylong road, 51-km from Manali town. It provides a wide
panoramic view of mountains rising far above clouds, which is a
sight truly breath-taking. It offers only limited skiing opportunities,
but trekking possibilities are immense.
The pass is open from June to September, although trekkers can cross
the pass from

May.
Beyond Rohtang pass lies the remote and, perhaps, the stark and
haunting landscape of predominantly Buddhist areas. The comparative
inaccessibility of the place has helped preserve the pristine culture
of the people of the region.
Trekkers Paradise
Situated amidst snowy peaks of Northern Himalayas, Rohtang Pass
could be described as a trekkers paradise. Here one gets an opportunity
to see the majesty of the mountains at its great height. Covered
by mountains, glaciers and rivers the long stretch of Rohtang pass
provides an excellent venue for the adventurous sports.
Skiing <>
Rohtang pass, which is covered with snow for nearly nine months
in a year provides an excellent opportunity for skiing. Department
of travel & tourism provides various facilities and training
to the beginners. The only place for skiing in India, where the
skiers can indulge in their favorite sport in summer as well as
autumn. A few km away from the Rohtang Pass, The Sonapani glacier
is located which also offers best skiing opportunities on its
slopes.
Trekking
In fact, trekking in Rohtang Pass is an adventurous journey that
presents mountain escapes as beautiful as anywhere in the world.
Provided with magnificent view of mountain cliffs, silvered waterfalls,
pine-spiked ridges, Rohtang pass is a beautiful trek in the Himalayan
range. The treks that connects Kullu Valley with Lahaul and Spiti
valley of Himachal Pradesh remains open between the month of June
and September.
