Surajkund Fair Haryana 1 to 15 February
Every year from the 1st till the 15th of February, the town of Surajkund (literally meaning the sun pool) is host to the biggest crafts fair in India. Working on a different theme every year the mela (fair in Hindi) seeks to create a platform to highlight the rich heritage of arts and crafts from all corners of India. The idea to hold the fair based on a specific theme is used to draw attention to a different craft of a different area every year. The fair not only offers objects for sale but in most cases you can also see the artisans at work. Everything from jewellery to toys to furniture to pottery and that too from various parts of India is for sale under one roof.

Apart from arts and crafts, the fair is also a venue for musical programs and classical dances at the Natyashala (the fan shaped amphitheatre). For those whom shopping or dance has no appeal, there is food. Food from all parts of the country and the typical fast food like chow mien, chaat and burgers. So at the end of the day everyone is happy.

The Surajkund Fair remains open from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm.

During the fair many special transport arrangements are made and these can be availed of from the major bus stops in Delhi, Gurgaon and Faridabad. The Surajkund Complex is 8 km from South Delhi. The nearest airports are the Domestic Airport (Palam Airport) and the International Airport (Indira Gandhi International Airport) both in Delhi. The closest railway stations are at Delhi, Gurgaon and Faridabad.

Surajkund is an historic site just beyond Delhi-Haryana border only 3 km from Tughlaqbad. Raja Surajpal of the Tomar clan built the Sun Temple and the Surjkund or lake at this site around 1000 AD, as he was a sun worshipper. The place got the name Surajkund after the name of this ruler. The temple is now in ruins but the lake has survived the vagaries of time.

Haryana Tourism initiated the Surajkund Mela for the first time in the year 1981. The master craftsmen from various regions display their art in the form of handicrafts or handlooms. The art objects are for display as well as sale so you can get to see shining mirror work, colorful tie-n-dyes, fine lace works, terracottas, metal wares and cane works. The prices here are comparatively lower than at various emporia thus attracting a huge crowd.

Air : All the major National and International Air Lines have their flights operating from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Tain :The Indian Railway with their modern and organised network connects Delhi to all major and minor destinations in India. There are three important Railway Stations in Delhi namely New Delhi Rly. Station, Old Delhi Rly. Station and Hazarat Nizamuddin Rly. Station.

Road : Delhi is well connected by road to all major destinations in North India. The Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) are located at Kashmiri Gate, Sarai Kale-Khan and Anand Vihar. Delhi Transport Corporations of the neighbouring states provide frequent bus services through Air Conditioned, Deluxe and Ordinary Coaches.
